Summer Reading Encouragement
By: Lanette Judy
Modeling reading a good book is such an important thing to do for our children. I often put it off as the last thing on my “to do” list. I find that when I pick up a book, my kids pick one up too and we all end up spending time reading. This is a great habit to start this summer. Here are some tips to try with your family.
Long road trips always call for several books to be packed so that everyone can have quiet time in the car to read.
Going to the pool or the beach? “Don't forget your book!”
Make frequent trips to the library so there are always new and interesting books available for your children to read.
Set a Goal- this can be individually or as a family, of the number of books you'd like to read and decide on an award. Getting ice cream is always popular with my family.
Don't be afraid to set a time together to read… teens included. They may even end up enjoying it!
Use our attached template to keep a log of your reading this summer. We look forward to partnering with you in reading great literature.
